Wizard Textware—Online Help projects

Wizard Textware has worked on a number of online help projects, both for Windows and Mac platforms. See also Hardware and software documentation and Other projects.

OMAX Interactive Reference Help file
Client: OMAX Corporation
Time: Jan 1995 to July 2006
Developed, designed and wrote extensive help file covering the two main software programs used to run abrasivejet machining systems. Documented all program functions, and also included tutorial and tips. Working from engineering input, developed reference section that explained in detail how abrasivejet machining works. Initially developed in WinHelp format, the entire project was migrated to compiled HTML Help format.
MarketPlace Web

MarketPlace Web was an on-line product that provided up-to-the-minute access to financial information for customers. Wizard Textware provided on-line Help to explain how to effectively use the search features provided
Books on CD
Client: Nelson Information

Nelson Information wanted a way to provide their financial information on CD, but were concerned about preventing easy copying. Wizard Textware developed a method, using their existing data format, to create a separate PDF for each profiled firm (from 1,000 to 20,000 firms). Wizard Textware also wrote the Help file for the product and provided testing and debugging of the software.
MarketPlace Windows

MarketPlace for Windows was an interface to data for the financial community. It includes custom reports, queries, a calendar and To-Do list, and the ability to generate contact letters. Wizard Textware provided complete on-line help for this application, including all screen shots used in the help. This help file was updated with each quarterly MarketPlace update.
Software Testing Laboratories
We wrote the help for Test Now, a complete set of test and programming tools for users of Microsoft Test. Test Now is a collection of routines and utilities, as well as an approach to constructing testing scripts. The on-line Help describes each of the Test Now commands, and gives syntax and examples for each command.

We worked from notes provided by the programmers, as well as interviews with the programmers and people who were experienced in using Test Now. We also worked with the client to complete development of the product and get it to the marketplace.
Musicware, Inc.
We converted the User's Guide for Nightingale, which was 600 pages, to a Help file. This included making revisions to the file and adding new material. The bulk of this work was cleaning up the Macintosh Word formatting and making it consistent. We added Contents entries to each main topic (so if you display information about the Beam by Beat command, you also see a list of related topics), and did some minor editing to the text.
